A Tradition that Brings the Community Together

During October of every year, the streets of downtown Mt. Sterling come alive with the vibrant energy of Court Day. This historic festival has been a beloved tradition since 1794, drawing visitors and vendors  from all over to experience the charm of Kentucky’s oldest outdoor market.

But it’s not just about shopping, food, and entertainment. It’s about community, celebration, and embracing the spirit of tradition.

History of the Event

Initiated in the 18th Century, Court Day quickly became the annual trading day for much of Eastern Kentucky and still is today. Mount Sterling delights in this 230+ year tradition when tens of thousands of people from all parts of the country gather for the three-day event.  Always starting on the Friday before the third Monday in October, Court Day specializes in many different arts and crafts, food and entertainment.  We invite you to come be a part of our Court Day Festival! Got something special you’d like to sell? We would love to have your unique crafts, antiques, or one of a kind specialty items become the most desirable thing at Court Day!
